The single most powerful attitude I know is optimism. Our internal state continually affects all those around us, so any attitude which affects that state will be very influential. Instead of feeling bad, you can feel good and still learn from any mistakes you may have made. Keep the content the same for the moment, but when you move and change it like this, you change your response. Sometimes however you need to hear what that critical voice says. I’d like you to practise this exercise so that every time you start to criticise yourself, you use this voice and move the voice to the end of your thumb. Now, listen again and hear everything that might be useful while feeling relaxed and amused by the silly tone of voice you are hearing.Now, imagine hearing the same critical comment but with your voice coming from your thumb and speaking like Mickey Mouse.Next, hold your hand up in front of you with the thumb pointing upwards and imagine floating that voice away from your head and out to your thumb.Now change the tone of the voice so it sounds like Mickey Mouse or a crazy cartoon character.Listen carefully to your inner voice and notice where it is, what tone it has and how loud it is.Think about a time when you criticised yourself severely, and remember what you said.Use this exercise to change your internal voice and how you feel.
